Back in the ancient times when all the Greek gods lived together up in the heavens, men from Sparta and Rome had big battles between each other to see which country was the best. One day every single Spartan and Roman warrior had heard about the brawl the high chiefs had declared and prepared for battle. One of the Spartans had picked up a piece of paper from the floor left behind by the crowd. "All gladiators and great warriors of Sparta and Rome, claim your title as the greatest warrior, and bring greatness to your country” Sincatar had shouted from the top of the colossus. Kratos heard him and asked “Where do we go and what do we do?” Spartacus said “Enter the colossus and ask for Caesar” Kratos did exactly as he said and entered the brawl to see if he can become the greatest warrior. In the colossus, Kratos walked in the dark hallways to enter the battle ground he heard the crowd cheering. Kratos fought to the top and won the clash. Kratos of dined in the halls with the all the gods except for Zeus. One day they were all eating and then Kratos said “Just because I won the battle, this is what I get? We all have immortality so what was the reason of the battle?” Zeus then appeared out of no where and said “What battle?” “The battle that you gods had agreed to happen” Kratos replied. “I never heard about this battle, so can someone tell me what happened because I never agreed to it so who did?” A voice came from the end of the table “I did.” Zeus was in fury and said “Hades, how dare you start a rivalry in my kingdom?” Zeus then declared a battle between himself and Hades. Zeus of course was winning by far but he was too old so Kratos wanted to fight for him. Kratos of course did not have the power or strength Hades had so Zeus blessed his weapons and helped him with the battle. In the end, Kratos had won the battle and Zeus threw him into the underground where he now lives.

Why people are different colours and stay that way, by Joshua.
Back in the day there were a rugby game with people that had long hair playing rugby on a field. The white people and black people were confused because they were different colors. So then there was a machine that can turn you black ,brown ,tan ,white and pale white so then black people were turning into different colors over and over again with their long hair and playing rugby on the rugby field at Eden park and Jeremiah Crawford was the leader for his rugby team named the long hairs team. But the other people were not that happy with the blacks because the other different colored people were getting angry because they weren’t getting a turn at using the different colored machine. So than they went and told the black people to make a rule at using the different colored machine. So then the rule was that you have to line up black then white at the machine. But some people were trying to push in the line so then the chief made a statement that they are going to get rid of the different colored machine. So then if your black or white you would’ve had to stay the same color that you were and then nobody was turning different colors so that’s why you don’t see any people changing colors each day of their life so then they finally had the greatest rugby tournament of history the rugby world cup at new Zealand in 2011 in Auckland city.
How the Cheetah came to be, by Jerry.
Once upon at time there was man named Cheetah .He was a very fit man he was
Very good at kung fu. He would beat up people that did bad stuff so then as he finished
his day he went to go and get him some clothes . Suddenly, three leopards came and
chased him he ran and ran very fast till he got away. He hid behind a building
And the leopards kept running straight but did not see the cheetah hiding behind the building.
So then the next day the cheetah continued his mission to beat up any bad people as he walked
Down to the bank a man ran out with a bag of money the cheetah soon ran after the man
But then the three leopards came out again so he ran very fast and then suddenly the cheetah
Turned into an animal and ran very fast. So he ran until he got to the desert so he then stayed and lived there forever .

Pimp My Waka
For the second half of term one, the year nines at Otahuhu College have been studying Maori migration to New Zealand in social studies. We have learnt about 7 waka that brought Maori people to New Zealand, and the interesting and different stories surrounding each departure and arrival. A waka is a Maori word for canoe. The waka we have studied include: Takitimu, Kurahaupo, Te Arawa, Aotea, Tainui and Maatauta. Each of these waka left Hawaiki for different reasons, and Maori today can trace their ancestors back to one of these canoes.
For their end of unit assessment, learners had to create either a diary entry, cartoon or talk show depicting the journey of a waka of their choice. Below is a slideshow of some of the diaries and cartoons. Hopefully next term we will be able to film some talk shows and show you those too!

Getting Started at Otahuhu College
In 2011 this blog is going to show the work of both 9UN and 9BR. We are taught by Miss Burt for social studies.
In social studies in the first part of term one we have been studying a topic called 'Getting Started at Otahuhu College'.
In this topic we have learnt about the story behind our school motto and emblem, why our houses are named Seddon, Massey, Hobson and Grey, and about the people in our class.
As a part of learning about our classmates, we have created family trees and shields to represent ourselves. The shield has the school motto on it, and we had to decorate it with images that represent us.
People put pictures of things about their culture, religion, school, hobbies, families and sports they like. The following slideshow has pictures from our shields and family trees that are on the wall of our class.
Let us know what you think of our work so far!

Summary of Stolen Generation Topic - David
This is David's overview of the topic thus far, in the form of a poem. Well done David!
They came in the light of day,
wanting to snatch us children away.
In the bush our lives we lived,
free from being downtrodden captives.
That fateful morn long gone by,
I was ambling beneath the blue sky.
With mum and my siblings nigh,
I thought I couldn't possibly die.
In a hazy cloud of dust,
emerged a vehicled glaze in rust.
The beat-up car driving brusque,
we knew the need to run was a must.
Men in a car had us caught,
We tried our best resisted and fought
Our pleas amounted to naught,
supposed protection they truly sought.
Into a squalid car shoved,
we gazed back at our mother beloved.
As the car began to roll,
In my heart I felt a gaping hole.
Our mother fell to her knees,
A victim of callous policies.
They couldn't be brushed off,
yet she tried her best to ward them off.
She put her hands to her face,
tears pouring down at a steady pace
Futile was to try and chase.
A chugging car she couldn't outrace.
In the car we tried to fight,
yet we couldn't overpower his might.
Our chances ruined by blight
Trapped in an inescapable plight.
As our home faded away,
We didn't have anything to say.
For we merely sobbed and cried,
our carefree existence gone awry
Thus plucked from the life I knew,
then and there I could not have construed
reason why us they pursued
Yet I knew hereout pain would ensue.
And indeed we did languish,
in the institutes and foster homes.
To this day remains anguish,
to forever reside in my soul.

Overview of the stolen generation topic
This term, we have been learning about the generations of stolen aboriginal children in Australia. The class was given three options in which to display their knowledge so far: either a series of paragraphs, cartoons, or lyrics in the style of Archie Roach. Here is the paragraph written overnight by Shinal:
Some of the effects are good . Its just one and that is that they taught them how to read and write, so now can tell us the horrible past/ history.
The things that i have learnt are that if a person is taken away they will go through a lot of pain and rejection. Here are some paragraphs explaining why all these things happened.
When a child was a half-cast the Europeans didn't accept their Aboriginal origin, they used to be threatened to that their children might be taken away. The Aboriginal parents were really helpless towards saving their children from being snatched. The Mum used to cry and held onto the moments of separation, and the Dads used to try to fight and defend his family from being separated. No matter what happened the children had to leave home. They had to let them go, the children were taken and put in institutions and when they grew up they had to marry some other white people, the Europeans wanted them to breed out their race.
When the children were taken away they were used to be treated so harshly. They were beaten up ,abused ,starved and used as cheap laborers. The Europeans used to promise to the children that whatever they did that was going in to their funds, but that was a lie.Even the missionaries and the politicians thought that they were doing a good favour for the children and their future. But instead the experiences that they have been through that has scarred them for life. The feelings or emotions left inside them are anger, hatred and alot of pain inside their soul.
These experiences made them hollow and judgemental from the outside .Some of the Aboriginal people who still living today some of them they take drugs/ alcohol to relieve them from their grief ..
The ideas that the Europeans had are really wrong and awful of getting rid of the Aborigines and wiping out their entire race. It is not acceptable.I'm really pleased to see that now days people are standing up and against all these kinds of situations. It's good to raise the voice of those whose were lost.
